De Gaulle: Résistance
First part of an epic diptych
★★★★
June 1940. France surrenders to the German army and signs the armistice. Amidst the chaos, one man refuses to resign himself to the situation: General Charles de Gaulle. As a brand new enemy of the state, he flees to London - without military support or hope - to pick up the shards of his fallen fatherland. De Gaulle has one unwavering belief: a new free France and a Europe that does not lay down its weapons against Nazi Germany. De Gaulle: Resistance is the first part of an epic diptych about patriotic figure Charles de Gaulle, directed by Antonin Baudry. With his background as a diplomat within the French government, Baudry gives the story a sharp political perspective. The film features both British and French big names, such as Simon Abkarian (Casino Royale) and de Gaulle, Simon Russell Beale (House of the Dragon, The Death of Stalin’, as Winston Churchill and Mathieu Kassovitz (La Haine) as Admiral Darlan. The film had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in 2026.
