Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt) was named the most promising Formula 1 driver in the 90s, until an accident on the track almost meant the end of his career. Thirty years later, he is a traveling driver who can be hired for races and is approached by his former teammate Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), the owner of a striking Formula 1 team that is about to go down. Ruben knows how to convince Sonny to return to Formula 1 for a last chance to save the team and to become the best in the world. His teammate becomes Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), the talented Rookie who is determined to become the fastest. But once the engines roar, Sonny is chased by his past and he notices that in Formula 1 your teammate is your biggest competitor and that he cannot get back on his own.
