Hamlet
The essence of Hamlet is a Broedermoord, a thriller with the most important question "Who has done it"? Studio Antigone, however, sees another entrance: the tragedy of the youth. In this respect they are inspired by the youth of the moment, but also by the opera "Hamlet" by Ambroise Thomas (1811-1896). Sounds and songs from this stubborn opera will sound in "Hamlet" and thereby shed a new light on the old "Hamlet" of Shakespeare.
A performance with Hamlet and Ophelia, not as crazy, but as soul mates, fighting together to be free. Hamlet to free itself from the false world of the court, similar to the virtual false world in which we now live. Ophelia to free themselves from the chains who apply to a woman, even today. Chain of chastity and obligation to remain silent. As always with this theater group, with a great respect for the original text, you will hear the beautiful language of Shakespeare.
In her entire 45-year career, as last season, director Agaath Witteman has proven with Antigone van Sophocles that respect for the writer's language can be accompanied by extremely modern theater suitable for a wide audience.
