The life of the famous psychiatrist Lilian Steiner (Jodie Foster) changes completely after the unexpected suicide of one of her patients, Paula. She refuses to accept that Paula ended her own life and suspects that she was mysteriously murdered. She suspects Paula's husband and sees no other solution than to investigate the perpetrator herself.
