A plastic state of mind - Het Nationale Theater | Gavin-Viano
In A plastic state of mind you follow four teenage girls and a woman who were captured by rebel leaders during the Second Liberian War. The girls live under horrific conditions and are forced to grow up much too quickly. When they see an opportunity to escape the bleak reality of army camp life, they must choose: do they stay in the world of trauma and violence in which they grew up? Or will they flee and embrace a brand new future?
“I first came into contact with ECLIPSED in 2020 and it touched me deeply. Since then, there have only been more outbreaks of fire in the world. This results in even less media attention for African wars and their survivors. And also for the people who were able to flee their situation and are now part of our society. That is why I think A plastic state of mind is still urgent. It grabs you by the throat, it is humorous and vulnerable, but hopefully it is also an eye opener. It shows that sisterly love and humanity are the necessary ingredients to come closer to each other.” - (director Gavin-Viano)
The performance takes place in a war situation. The performance contains (sexual) violence and the use of (fake) weapons. The violence is discussed, but not shown.
