Cabaret performer Chris Verlaan won many hearts with his shows Man in de Maak and De Kringloper . With his unique, autistic view of life and his quick-witted humour, he draws the audience into his world. His stories are relatable and surprising, and offer a refreshing take on everyday reality. In his very own dry, cynical style, Chris delivers a show full of anecdotes as only he can.

Whenever something goes wrong in Chris’s life, he always thinks of his mother’s saying: “Oh well, nobody’s getting pregnant from it.” And although this is his philosophy of life, he secretly has other plans. He happily muddles his way through his uncertain single existence, but would actually quite like to pass something of himself on to the next generation. Rather tricky, when even looking a woman in the eye is a challenge.

Loneliness doesn’t come with a warning sign. For Chris, that loneliness is not a great drama but a faithful passenger in his head. It feeds his fantasies, his fears and his longing for connection. As the world races past him, he wonders: when do you truly belong? And what if nobody sees how hard you’re actually trying?

With plenty of awkwardness and a healthy dose of self-mockery, Chris shares the life lessons he has learned – for now, then, just with his audience. Will he manage, in his own unique way, to do his bit for society?
