Battlefield of Dreams - Theater Utrecht | Floor Houwink ten Cate
Whether you are working on this subject as a twenties, thirties or forties, whether you look back on it later in your life, this question touches us all: what does it mean to want or get a child - or not want or not to get it? This is an issue that goes beyond just a personal assessment and entails various emotions and ethical dilemmas. Battlefield of Dreams is about (un) desired being childless, fertility programs and abortions, about new forms of parenting and reproductive justice.
"These stories play everywhere, but we hardly talk about it. With a large group of performers, musicians and experts, in this performance we show the often invisible and unheard of stories that we carry with us all our lives. It is an attempt to open the conversation, to understand each other better and to defend the right to self -determination - right now that it is under pressure again. "
- Floor Houwink ten Cate
Battlefield of Dreams is a unique merger of physical theater, intimate documentary, live music and a talk show with doctors and scientists in which fiction and reality intertwine. Through the eyes of women, men and (gender) queers, Battlefield of Dreams is a confrontational and moving experience about reproduction and creation power, and at the same time dissects the limits of the manufacturability of our existence.
with doctor-sexologist Peter Leusink, an expert in transgender care, who highlights the theme of the performance from a scientific perspective.
