Theater en toneel

At the real estate agency BV Vastgoed , the employees are subjected to a sales competition by the management. The two best sellers receive a bonus, the rest is fired. This causes a struggle in which only the strongest survives. In sharp, witty dialogues, Mamet outlines a desperate arena of people who are forced to be winners at the expense of losers. The play was awarded the Pulitzer Prize and received rave reviews.

After the theater hits August: Oklahoma (2024) and De Kersentuin (2023), Michel Sluysmans again directs a modern interpretation of a famous theater classic. Mamet wrote his piece in 1982, at the start of the neo -liberal era. More than 40 years later, that era runs on its last legs. In the translation of Jibbe Willems, BV Vastgoed becomes a hilarious and sad portrait of people who are stuck in a world that they have helped create themselves. A lonely world that revolves around money, an empty world in which selfishness is considered a condition for success and altruism as a weakness. Because who does not eat, it is eaten.
