Byzantium - Het Zuidelijk Toneel | Abattoir Fermé
In restaurant Byzantium, the closure has left little except a disrupted workforce: in the dishwashing kitchen there is a punctual dishwasher, the oven is operated by a cross-border chef, and in the service area a rude drunk of a waiter would rather drink the wine himself than serve it. Everyone chases their own dream while the restaurant slowly goes under. A shrewd entrepreneur is eager to transform it into a crematorium. Ovens are ovens.
In this first co-production between Het Zuidelijk Toneel and the Flemish Abattoir Fermé, Stef Lernous directs a playful and slightly disruptive spectacle about the backside of the catering industry. Think of ambition that boils over, egos that burn and nothing that really stays fresh. The spectacle unfolds in two parts. Separated by a hundred years in the past or future;
