The Surprise Show tells the compelling story of a child who grows up between uncertainty and hope. The piece touches on the deep desire for change, the impact of waiting and the clash between fantasy and reality. A personal and universal story about the search for a future in an uncertain world.

In 1994, as a young girl, Nazanin fled from Iran to the Netherlands and ended up in AZC Kollum. Her biggest dream? Participate in The Surprise Show. Every day she practiced her playback skills in front of the mirror, convinced that Henny Huisman would call. At the AZC she made friends with Maya Bradarić and was spat at after the murder of Marianne Vaatstra. She waited for certainty, for papers and for an invitation.

Years later she is on stage herself, with an acting diploma and a flourishing career on TV and in the theater, and finally one step closer to Henny Huisman.

The Surprise Show is a personal, raw, moving and hilarious solo performance. About dreams that remained wrapped up for years, full of childhood memories of blossoming friendships in the waiting rooms of a system that referred but never answered. About the question of what endless waiting does to a child and how theater is sometimes the only place where the girl who saw everything is finally seen.
