In the Amsterdam of the 80s we meet the young philosophy student Marie who craves knowledge and a meaningful life. For seven years we watch with her during seven encounters that form her life and personality.

In The laws we follow Maries meetings with seven determining people in her young life: the astrologer, the epileptic, the philosopher, the priest, the physicist, the artist and the psychiatrist. Based on these encounters, she gets to know different ways to look at people and personality. We see how she incorporates the writership in a controversial way and gives meaning to her life, thanks to and despite these encounters.
