When Esperanza leaves her native island in the ’90s and has to start over in the Netherlands, she takes a world of memories with her.

Through her eyes we meet Maria, Tati and Ayse, each searching in their own way for a place to land. What binds them is not just their migration story, but a friendship that makes them dream of what the future might bring.

Amid salsa, unexpected plot twists and family secrets, an intimate story of identity and homecoming unfolds. On stage, those worlds flow into one another: between the Netherlands and the Caribbean, between who she is and who she thinks she has to be.

Esperanza is a musical show about the power to rewrite your own story. At a time when many people feel forced to adapt, to keep quiet or to make themselves smaller, this show offers room to breathe, to celebrate and to find one another.

Esperanza is based on the award-winning podcast La Isla Bonita (The Beautiful Island) by Emilie van Heydoorn, a production by Mondi Cultuurhuis.
