On the surface, this ingenious opera tells a sweet story in which the composer Janáček brings the sounds of the animal world to life. The piece is full of singing animals, but the relationship between nature and people is central. A fox cannot be tame and therefore it constantly challenges the human world. Janáček's message is that nature, just like man himself, is subject to an eternal cycle of dying and being born. In this we see both a deep human story and a remarkably ahead of climate change and the impact of humans on the planet.
