Sometimes it feels like a storm is living in Novi's chest. Nobody knows why. One day she flees to the attic, a place full of boxes, yellowed photos and the smell of long ago. Two mysterious figures appear there and disappear into old photo albums. Novi jumps after it.

In Kakek, Opa & Ik Novi travels through the hidden stories of her family. She delves into the past through photo albums, letters and forgotten melodies. What starts as a playful voyage of discovery grows into a magical journey through her family history and a shared colonial past of the Netherlands and Indonesia that still continues into the present.

Along the way, Novi discovers that the anger she feels may be older than herself. That emotions can travel from generation to generation. And that understanding sometimes starts with looking, listening and feeling.
