KOPFKINO – Sven Ratzke

KOPFKINO - Sven Ratzke

Musical & Show

Ratzke goes on a musical and theatrical journey through time: from the first flickering images in a peek box to the great Hollywood classics and the poetic universes of masters such as Fellini, Fassbinder, Hitchcock and Lynch. No fewer than eighty films and many film genres are reviewed. During the performance, he sings well-known film songs, sometimes witty, sometimes melancholic, such as‘ Somewhere Over the Rainbow ’from The Wizard of Oz and‘ As Time Goes By ’from Casablanca.

“If you put my films from Kopfkino one after the other, you will see a portrait of my life. Maybe that invites you to reflect on the films that shaped you." It's not a chronological film history or a best-of overview. “I think everyone carries their own film archive. Sometimes one melody is enough to bring a forgotten memory to life.”

A look at the film
Ratzke's fascination with film dates back to his youth. At the age of sixteen, he managed to get a job at the Cinemariënburg film house by pretending to be an adult eighteen-year-old. Surrounded by film scientists, programmers and cinephiles, he began his own informal film training there. He discovered the worlds of Fellini, Lynch and Kieslowski and saw classics that changed his view of film forever.

During Kopfkino, the stage turns into a living film screen in which past and present coincide. "For me, film is the ultimate Gesamtkunstwerk," says Ratzke. Many art forms come together: music, literature, photography, painting, design, poetry and theatre. “Film can capture time or be timeless. I find that incredibly fascinating."
