L’Étoile - Opera Zuid

Koning OF I looks forward to his self -made birthday present every year: having a random subject execute. This year the choice is on the brutal Marskramer Lazuli. But, court astrologist Siroco warns the king: Ofs star is closely linked to that of Lazuli. He dies, then Ouf dies. Instead of a horrible punishment, Lazuli suddenly waits a life full of luxury, privileges and even a marriage with the princess!  This Opéra Bouffe laves between airy comedy, black humor and sharp satire.

Is l’étoile a fairy tale? A political parody? Existential satire? It's all at the same time. In any case, it holds a laughing mirror to us, in which the randomness of power, the foolishness of fate and the transience of existence are exposed in astarious way.

director Matthew Eberhardt brings this unique story to life with great enthusiasm. Orchestra Philzuid takes care of the music led by the French conductor Nicolas Krüger. The opera is sung and spoken in French, with Dutch and English surtitles.
