The long night
A woman flees from her past. She struggles with her loneliness and longs for contact. In an attempt to turn her life around, she turns to her sister and brother-in-law, who reluctantly take her in. What follows is a long, oppressive night in which old wounds open, relationships come under increasing pressure and boundaries are seriously crossed. Can she intervene before everything escalates?

Director Belle van Heerikhuizen: “When you crave connection, you can end up in situations that are not good for you. In Guilty Child it was about a boy who was too young to guard his boundaries. The woman in Nightshade is mature, therefore stronger and less naive, but no less vulnerable. It is that tension between strength and vulnerability that fascinates me: how can someone stay afloat when everything seems to be against them? Is she too fragile for the world, or is the world too hard for her?”
