Piaf - Suzan Seegers, Julia Berendse, Job Bovelander e.a.
Sixty years ago, after a life full of drink, drugs and men, one of France’s greatest artists died: Edith Piaf. Now, long after her death, her songs are still listened to and sung all over the world. Songs such as Non, Je ne regrette rien, La Vie En Rose, Milord and Padam are just a few immortal examples from an impressive repertoire.
This show is about the life and death of ‘the little sparrow’. Through stories and her unforgettable music, the phenomenal Piaf relives several key moments from her life. She discovers who she was and finds out what it is she leaves behind.
The story behind the legend
Edith Piaf has just died. And she is thoroughly confused. This is not what she wanted. This is not how she had ever imagined it. She was supposed to die in Paris with a priest at her bedside. Not in some backwater. Freshly deceased, the bewildered Piaf meets four characters. The Angel. The Devil. The Fool. And Death. Then it turns out that her husband Theo Sarapo listened to her carefully. He has called an ambulance and lies to the driver that Edith is asleep. The journey is a long one. Almost a thousand kilometres. Piaf insists to her four life companions that she is not dead as long as she is not in Paris. And as long as she does not know what she leaves behind. So for the length of the journey to Paris she is stuck with these four passengers, each of whom has left an indelible mark on her existence. Piaf wants to know where these four were in her life. Through their stories and the unforgettable music of Edith Piaf, the legend relives several key moments in her life to discover who she was and to find out what it is she leaves behind.
Suzan Seegers returns in her Musical Award-winning role as Edith Piaf.
