Reflections - Nationale Opera & Ballet
Art offers space for reflection. On ourselves and the world around us. In two Mahler compositions, Ratmansky manages to make universal human sadness palpable with abstract, penetrating dance. The reason for this is the celebration of 25 years of gay marriage in 2026. Wicklund is based on the musical ode – with song – that composer Willem Jeths brought to gay marriage in 2011. The singing parts are performed by young singers from the National Opera Studio. In between, they allow themselves to be distracted by two women, who challenge them to a fleeting romance. Movement and music come together unparalleled in this dynamic dance quartet. Symphony in C is a tribute to the splendor of this, but he injected the dance with spirit and verve, culminating in a finale that bubbles and fizzes like a glass of champagne.
