The story of resistance leaders Agatha and Maria starts with the rebellion on the Santa Maria plantation (Curaçao, 1716). Dozens of slaves stormed the house of the supervisor of the plantation (the factor) and kill him, the law enforcement (the rider of the WIC) and his wife. The woman of the factor fled with her children and later declares that she had seen a bloody slave made in the house of Maria.

Maria is said to have turned on the murder of the factor from revenge because he had been responsible for the death of her previous husband. As soon as the news of the events reaches Willemstad, a hunt is set up ...

How does the story of Maria and Agatha (September 1716) relate to the story of the great uprising of Tula and his men in 1783?
