We Don’t Live Here Anymore - Jakop Ahlbom Company
Marijke Schermer wrote the new theater text We Don't Live here anymore at the request of Jakop. In the show we hear the dialogues as a voice-over of the characters while the performers in Ahlbom's unique movement language express their inner emotions.
The emotional life of the characters is visualized by the (bodies of) the players while we listen to their conversations. What is said, and what is silent about?
Sources of inspiration for this show were the novelles we don't live here and in the bedroom of Andre Dubus, the novel revolutionary road by Richard Yates, the film of the same time, > Closer's film and the film > Closer's film We don't live here anymore is a piece about hidden truths and the unrest that arises when previously made choices begin to pinch.
The characters are at a breaking point, in which they again ask themselves and their desires.
Instead of resting in what is, they look for what can still be.
This poetic piece challenges both our ratio and our imagination.
It makes us feel the pain, doubt and strength of loved ones in transformation.
