Cabaret

In Zei je dat echt? actors Gürkan Küçüksentürk and Huub Smit dive, with humour and bite, into the wondrous world of communication and everything that can go wrong with it. In instantly recognisable scenes, two men keep running into each other in situations full of misunderstandings, small clashes and unspoken assumptions. Sometimes they are friends, sometimes colleagues, sometimes complete strangers. But they always get to each other, whether they mean to or not.

A sincere compliment that lands badly. A joke taken entirely the wrong way. A silence that speaks louder than a thousand words. Zei je dat echt? shows just how fragile communication is, and how quickly we judge on the basis of what we think we hear.

With a playful mix of cabaret, theatre and musical moments, the show switches effortlessly from excruciatingly awkward to painfully funny. From sharp observations to scenes in which everyone will recognise themselves.

At a time when we seem to be ever more careful with our words, Gürkan and Huub deliberately seek out the places where things chafe. Where assumptions collide, misunderstandings arise and reality turns out to be just a little different from what we thought. Zei je dat echt? is a sharp, witty and surprisingly recognisable show about everything that happens between what we say and what the other person hears.
