Het hele dorp wist het
The impressive book The Whole Village Knew will be followed up in the theater.
The book, published by De Correspondent, tells the story of Lenneke who is sexually abused by her grandfather.
Everyone knows it, but it remains undiscussed and ignored.
Poignant acted scenes from the book are alternated in the performance with short video fragments by author Rinke Verkerk.
The conversation with the audience is guided live by presenter and interviewer Marleen Stelling, who knows how to discuss sensitive questions in a vulnerable manner, without being forceful.
How is it possible that bystanders remain silent in the face of abuse and what is the impact of this on victims?
Does saying nothing make you partly responsible?
And what can you do?
The entire village knew it is a penetrating and dialogic theater experience that makes the painful reality of abuse and silence tangible.
A performance about taking responsibility, courage and the search for change.
