Introdans & Krisztina de Châtel
In a windless prologue that is accompanied by the babbling piano sounds of Simeon ten Holt’s Canto Ostinato, the dancers prepare for what is to come. They hang out of the lead as they lean against the wind. Their arms cleaves through the air. They are ready for the fight. Then the growing roar of wind machines drowns out the soft piano sounds. The dancers suck the lungs full and proudly and pride give the fight against this (invisible) matter that they make dancing tangible. The monumental dance performance Typhoon (1986) by choreographer Krisztina de Châtel will be resumed in the spring of 2025 and danced by the dancers of Introdans. The choreographic urge to order of the Châtel - Queen of the minimalist dance - is, as it were, tested in a flying storm. The brightness in structure, the minimum shifts and the battle with the power of the wind machines fascinate enormously. Introdans attaches to the cherishing and resuming existing repertoire to prevent dance from becoming disposable art and also a new generation of the public of these impressive works, "said Roel Voorintholt, artistic director Introdans.
For the performanceTyphoonhe worked out the idea to let the dancers enter into an outright confrontation with the unpredictable forces of the wind. He placed three wind machines that can vary in force from a light breeze to a big storm. De Châtel then lets its dancers enter into direct confrontation with the wind machines designed by Vermeulen.
