Marietje Appelgat is not just a girl. She stinks in the wind for an hour and never washes. The neat people of the city find her dirty and bullying her. But Marietje cannot be caught for one hole ... She is looking for someone who does accept her as she is.

On the way she meets the cheerful wanderer Zeezuiper, the fired teacher Cleo and the stubborn Vondel. They teach her that being dirty is also an art and that life becomes much more fun if you do not try to meet the rules of others. Together they celebrate her birthday in a way that the city will never forget ... with mud, snot and a cockroach dance!
