Nederlands Blazers Ensemble
With Richard Strauss and Arnold Schönberg, the NBE focuses on love: romantic longing and the confrontation with harsh reality. The light, graceful Serenade and the more drawn-out Suite by a young Strauss are contrasted with Schönberg's compelling Verklärte Nacht, a musical rendition of a nocturnal confession full of guilt, forgiveness and inner transformation.
For the first time, the NBE is playing a complete program with only wind instruments. Strauss in its original line-up and Schönberg translated into wind instruments by Geert van Keulen means chamber music at the highest level. An exciting search for new colors and for what lies hidden behind the original orchestrations. The Flemish writer Maud Vanhauwaert translates the story of Verklärte Nacht into the present. With playful, astute observations and unexpected twists, she makes love and vulnerability palpable.
