A piece about love in times of crisis

In the fall of 2025, Toneelgroep Maastricht and Stichting Nox bring the award -winning play Lungs to the Dutch theaters. Zorba Huisman directs actors Frieda Barnhard and Nick Renzo Garcia in a moving and dire love story, in which a young couple struggles with the question of whether it is justified to give up a child in times of overcrowding and climate change. Lungs is written by Duncan Macmillan (Every Brilliant Thing, People Places & Things ), according to the Volkskrant the playwright .  They are doing well, they are highly educated, concerned with the world around them and also in love. One day, in line at the IKEA, the man asks a question that will definitively change their relationship; With great compassion, humor and lightness, Duncan Macmillan describes the heavy choice that weighs on a young couple that is hurled back and forth between feeling and mind in intimate and cutting dialogues. Lungs shows the dilemma of a generation for whom uncertainty is the only certainty. Which world do we pass on to our children? And do we have to want to visit those children?

Zorba Huisman graduated in 2021 as a director at the theater academy in Maastricht and is a director at Toneelgroep Maastricht. Her work is characterized by strong, aesthetic images. Museum of nature, but always human and tangible. Lungs premiered in 2023 at Festival Cultura Nova. "This strikingly pure text premiere deserves a tour," wrote de Volkskrant. This wish is given to this.
