Tribute to Theodorakis
A Greek taverna. An evening that slowly starts. Glasses that sound, voices that sing, musicians who sit down. In Tribute to Theodorakis you get in as an audience yourself: a world full of warmth, resistance, hope and music. On stage an international ensemble of top musicians with roots in classical music, jazz and folk music from all over the world. Together with the Greek star singer Vasilis Lekkas, more passionate than everyone else, the biggest advocate of the Theodorakis song. Behind them a life -size film projection of the Taverna in Piraeus where Mikis Theodorakis himself came so often. The musicians on stage play live together with the musicians who happen to come by in the taverna on the screen - as if the wall between then and now, in between here and there, disappears. And every now and then it is zoomed in on historical, iconic film clips of Mikis Theodorakis: Mikis as a singer, conductor, composer and philosopher. But it is also a personal project by father and son Bart and Julian Schneemann, who have put all their love for Greece, her culture and music in this program. They gathered a special group of like -minded musicians around him: from the Turkish Ney and the Italian Organetto, to the Greek Bouzouki. Samen brengen zij Mikis Theodorakis tot leven met een uniek, ontroerend en intiem muzikaal portret (en natuurlijk is er na afloop “op z'n Grieks” een afterparty, met Griekse wijn en Mezedes...)
