Introdans & Krisztina de Châtel

Voor de voorstelling Typhoon werkte Krisztina de Châtel samen met beeldend kunstenaar Peter Vermeulen en componist Simeon ten Holt. Het centrale thema in het werk van Peter Vermeulen is het omzetten van energie in bewegende en geluidsproducerende beelden. Voor Typhoon werkte hij het idee uit om de dansers een regelrechte confrontatie aan te laten gaan met de onberekenbare krachten van de wind. Hij plaatste daarvoor drie windmachines die in kracht kunnen variëren van een lichte bries tot een flinke storm. De Châtel laat haar dansers vervolgens de directe confrontatie aangaan met de door Vermeulen ontworpen windmachines.

During a calm prologue accompanied by the gentle piano sounds of Simeon ten Holt’s Canto Ostinato, the dancers are preparing themselves for what’s to come. They are leaning off balance as if leaning into the wind. Their arms are slicing through the air. They are ready for battle. Then, the rising soar of wind machines is drowning out the soft sound of the piano. The dancers are filling their longs with air and proudly fight this (invisible) matter that is made tangible through their dancing. Choreographer Krisztina De Châtel’s monumental dance production ‘Typhoon’ (1986) will hit the theaters again in 2025 and will be performed by dancers of Introdans. De Châtel, queen of minimalist dancing, has a choreographic obsession with order, which will be tested during this show as if in a raging storm.

Introdans is committed to treasuring and reperforming the existing repertoire to prevent dance from becoming disposable art, allowing a new generation of audiences to experience these impressive works,” says Roel Voorintholt, artistic director of Introdans.
