No Good Men
A more authentic image of Afghanistan, presented with humor and romance
★★★⯨
Afghanistan, 2021, shortly before the Taliban returns to power. Naru, the only camerawoman at Kabul's main television station, tries to keep custody of her three-year-old son. Since leaving her cheating husband, she has become convinced - like most Afghan women - that there are no good men in her country. That's why Naru is surprised when Qodrat, Kabul TV's top journalist, offers her a career opportunity. As they criss-cross the city together to report on the last days of freedom, sparks fly between them and Naru begins to doubt her beliefs. Might there be a good man out there somewhere?
Director, screenwriter and leading actress Shahrbanoo Sadat wants to show a different, more authentic image of Afghanistan with No Good Men, with humor and romance. No Good Men opened the last Berlin Film Festival.
