Theater maker and master storyteller Sadettin Kırmızıyüz opens his new series "A kind of Dutchman" with "First Man", a personal and penetrating solo performance about how identity works from generation to generation. With humor, vulnerability and sharp social observations, he investigates how traumas and dreams of one generation influence the next and whether a migration background ever stops being an obstacle.

The day after the parliamentary elections in 2023, Sadettin is in the kitchen with his ten -year -old son. Because of the election victory of the PVV, he is afraid that his grandfather and grandmother will be deported because they are Muslims. Sadettin insures his teenage son, despite his own worries: “We belong here, even though we have a last name that does not sound Dutch. Even though we come from a Muslim family. Whatever happens, we will stay here. " Sadettin, the parent, lies awake all night.

How did we end up here? After years in which Sadettin himself was confronted with foreigner hatred and discrimination, his son of ten is now also confronted with this? Multiple languages ​​are spoken in the family of Kırmızıyüz. Christmas, Ramadan, Easter, sacrifice party and Sinterklaas are simply celebrated by everyone. If politicians talk about an integration problem in people with a migration background, Sadettin does not have to feel addressed. They are doing well, right? Sadettin Kırmızıyüz (Zutphen, 1982) is an actor and theater maker.
