A story of displacement - Panama Pictures
The search in A story of displacement takes place in an inhospitable landscape with rocky sloping surfaces and undulating floorboards, which prove to be elastic. These springy floorboards break the performers' fall, deform and aggravate their movements and sometimes almost let them fly – moments of weightlessness form a sharp contrast to the sliding, tumbling and scrambling to get a grip. In this isolated landscape, different laws of nature seem to apply, creating a new, fascinating movement idiom.
With A story of displacement, Panama Pictures shows how we relate to our environment and how we interact with each other in these disruptive times. Our language of dance and circus shows the strength and vulnerability of the searching person.
The music, a reinterpretation of contemporary techno, is specially composed by Strijbos and Van Rijswijk and Davide Bellotta, and performed live by Davide Bellotta (electronica) and a cellist.
"Panama Pictures evokes a world where movement and music need no words. This creates an exciting quest that keeps you as a viewer and listener on the edge of your seat." (Brabants Dagbad)

The media about A story of displacement
"The symbolism radiates from 'A Story of Displacement', in which migration is given a strong, wordless interpretation" (de Volkskrant)
