DOPE - Wat we doen

You snort a line or watch your friend go under. You make quick money with a package or turn a blind eye at the port. Even your blueberries travel along the same routes the underworld uses. Whether you like it or not: drugs are part of your world. 

The powerful theatre and dance show DOPE reveals how drugs connect every layer of our society like an invisible line. Through dynamic (hip-hop) dance, monologues and intimate conversations, a retriever who pulls drugs from shipping containers, a parent, a customs officer and a user tell the honest story of the role drugs play in their world. For one it’s a party, for another, quite literally, the container. At times you find yourself right in the middle of a drug deal. Slowly you are confronted with the consequences of dreams of fast money, the lure of social media, failing poverty policy and the feeling among many young people that they don’t matter.  

For DOPE, WAT WE DOEN carried out research with the FORT-PORT programme into drug crime and people smuggling in and through the port of Rotterdam. Using the results, WAT WE DOEN and Lloydscompany are creating DOPE together. From one hour before the theatre and dance show, FORT-PORT researchers present the results of this research in an artistic way in the foyer: think of a short film, a game or spoken word. Entry to this programme is free and you can drop in at any time.
