The Currentis part ofThe Human Odyssey, an ongoing artistic trajectory that explores how people create meaning and connection through collective physical experiences.

The performance brings the physical and cultural codes of club culture to the stage and approaches raving as embodied resistance and an expression of freedom. In an electronic environment, performers reconstruct a night in which pain, trauma and segregation remain on the dance floor, while they move towards liberation and a shared release.

NITE actor and singer Sarah Janneh interprets texts by South African author Ronelda S. Camphor. Live percussion and electronic music from producer Max Frimout and Stanislav Tolkachev together form an intense soundscape.

In an immersive installation by Boris Acket, the audience moves through a dynamic labyrinth of spaces where dancers, musicians and spectators come together. This creates an experience in which individuality and collective movement are in constant tension with each other.

The title The Current refers to a current against which resistance is possible or in which people are carried along. An invisible field of tension that connects, while every position remains part of a larger whole.

The dance language is inspired by high-energy styles such as the gabber scene from the 90s: direct, rhythmic and ruthless, with fast repetitive footwork. The bouncy, energetic movement vocabulary of K-pop is also explored from a contemporary artistic perspective.
