Tulip Town - Steef de Jong, Ilse Warringa, Rop Verheijen, Daniel Cornelissen en Thor Braun
Sacred houses fall and cardboard worlds unfold, while genders change in a wink. Rich in androgynous costumes, spectacular sets and dazzling live music, the operetta classic by Offenbach, the greatest punk of the 19th century, comes to life as a theatrical pop concert.
Romboidal, grand marshal of the Count of Tulip Town, blames his wife Théodorine for the boyish behavior of their daughter Hermosa. Prince Alexis turns out to be remarkably gentle and merciful. While these two are madly in love with each other, they discover that their parents have designed their lives slightly differently. The confusion is everywhere and complete, except for Hermosa and Alexis, who love each other just the way they are. Tulip Town is therefore a cheerful plea for being who you are and of course for love!
Offenbach's timeless melodies receive fresh, pointed arrangements by Marijn van Prooijen, in which the punk occasionally bursts wonderfully through the operetta. The music is played live by musicians who create a sparkling bridge between 1868 and today. An irresistible mix of operetta, punk and cardboard magic: Tulip Town is a dazzling feast for the eyes and ears.
