Stephanie Struijk
This year marks 20 years since Stephanie Struijk made her debut with the album Away From Here. She was 19 and had written all the songs herself. It was a kind of diary, a place where she could make up stories but also describe the whirlwind of feelings that comes with the journey from teenager to adult. She took her songs to big stages and small ones, and she kept on writing.
These days that whirlwind is no longer caused by a restless, dreamy teenage brain, but the road to the songs remains the same. “I’ve now been writing songs for longer than I haven’t.” It is part of her life; it gives her something to hold on to, and a thrill.
