Literair Café
Leonieke Baerwaldt (1985) studied philosophy and literary studies. In 2018 she won the Grote Lowlands Schrijfwedstrijd writing competition. You can read her short stories in places such as Hard//hoofd and Papieren Helden and in Kluger Hans, De Revisor en De Gids.
Her debut novel 'Hier komen wij vandaan' (Querido 2021) was longlisted for both the Libris Literatuurprijs and the Boekenbon Literatuurprijs. Her latest novel 'Dagen als vreemde symptomen' (Querido 2024) was also longlisted for the Libris Literatuurprijs and won the BNG Bank Literatuurprijs. With understated power, the novel portrays the love, exhaustion and loneliness of a mother caring for her child with multiple disabilities. September 2025 saw the publication of 'Wat niet vergaat', the Brabants Boek Present. For this book she investigates the story of a herbal doctor who was exposed as a fraud on television in the late 1960s.
