The evidence seems crystal clear: a 16-year-old boy is guilty of murder. But at the first vote, one juror raises doubts. He hesitates, holds a different opinion and is immediately jeered at and threatened by the others. Despite the pressure and intimidation, he refuses to give up.

What follows is a heated discussion in which it becomes clear that everyone’s judgement is coloured by prejudice, racism and personal fears. The debate escalates and the tension rises as the jurors are confronted with the question: who is right — the truth or the doubt?

12 Angry Men, made famous by the 1957 film of the same name starring Henry Fonda and Lee J. Cobb, among others, is a timeless story about justice, prejudice and the courage to keep thinking critically.

In the Netherlands, this play is also known under the title: De 12 gezworenen.

A play that invites reflection on today’s social debates — online, on social media and in everyday life.
