David was born over 16 million minutes ago. Since then he has had questions and is looking for answers everywhere. He studies psychology to find the answer to the question: “What's wrong with me?” And how do you earn that after studying philosophy?”
In his performance 'If I were you', David takes the audience on a philosophical journey of discovery through his own life. He looks back on the choices that have made him who he is today and wonders: could I have chosen differently? Because David can do what he wants, but could he have wanted it differently? And does he actually know what he wants?
Questions require answers and answers require words. David searches for the meaning of life with sentences full of meaningful nonsense. He believes that you cannot find answers without words. Without words you only find “ant” and that is of no use to you.
About David
David van Rosmalen has a background in psychology and philosophy and worked for many years as a behavioral advisor within sustainability transitions. The combination of analytical sharpness and social interest forms the basis of his work on stage. In his lyrics and music he explores how people think, choose and doubt, often with a mixture of humor, reflection and language pleasure.
When David decided to bring his lyrics and music to the stage, he felt like a fish in increasingly warm water: a combination of coming home and a healthy fear of death.
In 2025, David won the student, audience and jury prizes of the Leiden Cabaret Festival, instantly establishing himself as a striking new voice within the cabaret field.
