De Belangelozen - Collectief T&T | Via Rudolphi
In The Selfless we follow Sam. A volunteer with tons of energy and great ideals. Sam is fully committed to helping people with money problems. He works through stacks of letters, calls one creditor after another and makes budget plans in an instant. No problem. Sam has understood the concept of the Participation Society. He will participate until he has eradicated all poverty from the country.
In fast scenes we jump from living room to municipal office and back to the next living room. We see Sam, who tries to help everyone, without losing himself in it. Sam knows he can't go under. That would be catastrophic in a country that relies on millions of volunteers.
The Selflessis made in close collaboration with the Humanitas association. In the run-up to this performance, the makers joined them as volunteers in order to be able to sketch, up close, a recognizable and human perspective of what it means to be a volunteer.
The Selfless is an urgent, humorous performance about how we deal with an increasingly large group of people in poverty. About the beauty, but also the sustainability of the entire ecosystem of volunteers and organizations that have filled the gap left by the government. About Sam.
