Kalpanarts presents three unique pieces in a Triple Bill: a remake of two duets Tara and fluid and a brand new solo whisper . The three pieces show what Kalpanarts stands for: bringing together different styles and disciplines, and placing Indian culture in a contemporary context. Every work explores themes of tradition and modernity, personal and social stories, and the dynamics between culture and identity.

Whisper dives into the personal battle within the medical care system. The solo shows the struggle to be taken seriously within a system that does not always listen. Tara explores the cosmic attraction between dance and music, with a combination of Indian classic dance forms and powerful rock sounds. Fluid challenges the boundaries of masculinity and strength by letting the energetic movements of break dance merge with the emotional depth of Indian vocals.

Sacred writings, break dance, Ayurveda, a looping station, astrology, shiva and shakti, Indian vocals & dance, and goddess Kali are discussed in this modern triptych.

“Kalpana Raghuraman made two short duets for a dancer and a musician, in which she shows nicely in Fluid where breakdance and Indian dance touch each other and merge. Denden Karadeniz demonstrates on the sweet vocals of Shashwathi Jagadish his flexible floor work and broken lines in frozen shoulder positions, which suddenly seem to fit logically in that Indian sound world. ” (NRC)
