Pers and the public responded unanimously to Tom's debut album "Closer" from 2016. It produced performances throughout the country. Highlights included performances at the Naked Song Festival and his TV debut at VPRO's Free Sounds.

In March 2024, the band presented the follow -up album "Soon" in a sold -out room in the Chassé Theater in Breda. Personal stories trapped in 10 beautiful songs. An album with singer-songwriter music and influences from folk, Americana and classical music. Small songs to listen to: sometimes very small, sometimes a bit bigger, sometimes with a good dose of melancholy, but always with a nice story.

Erwin Zijleman (currants from the doll) about "Soon":

"It is quite busy in the genre in which Tom Neven operates, but just like with his debut album Closer, the Brabant musician gives the competition with the beautiful songs on Soon."

Theo Volk (Music That Needs Attention) About "Soon":

"Soon knows at least as a debut Closer after intensive listening."

Tom Neven & The Side Effect consists of: Tom Neven (guitar, vocals), Marie de Thouars (Violin, vocals), Robbert van Elewout (Ukulele, Singing) and Rob Couweleers (bass guitar).

During the show the band plays songs from both "Soon" and "Closer". Together this foursome turns the songs subtly and they take you into delicious melancholy. Live performances are always characterized by the intimate, homely atmosphere that the band knows how to create. Tom talks to each other with his stories full of humor. These moments create a connection between the public and musicians and give their performances that little bit more.
