When Emile is diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s, he decides to leave his safe but stifling surroundings behind. On impulse he buys a camper van and places an ad for a travel companion. The mysterious Joanne responds. Together they set off on an unexpected road trip that confronts them with memories, desires and the question of how to go on living when the future is so uncertain.
The result is a moving piece of theatre in which story and music reinforce each other. Al het blauw van de hemel touches on themes everyone recognises: loss, hope, starting over and the courage to face yourself. A comforting experience for anyone who has ever lost someone – perhaps even themselves.
Al het blauw van de hemel is a brand-new piece of music theatre based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Mélissa Da Costa. Buddy Vedder and Shelley Bos play the lead roles in this intimate, deeply felt musical play, directed by Daan Wijnands, with lyrics by Max Roijé and music by Mark Kuypers.
For every theatre ticket sold, 1 euro goes to Alzheimer Nederland to support research into Alzheimer’s disease.
