Rob Kemps
The greatest chansonnier of all time is not a Frenchman. He was a Fleming from Belgium who spoke French. A man from Schaerbeek who left hearth and home to win worldwide fame in Paris. After that he roamed the world, by way of Berlin, Moscow and New York, finally finding peace on an island deep in the Pacific Ocean. He spent his last days on Hiva Oa. And that is where he is buried.
For Rob Kemps it’s clear: Jacques Brel is the greatest of them all. After the success of Hemel op aarde, the subject of his next programme was already a given. In Laat me niet alleen, Rob now takes us around the world. In Brel’s footsteps. With as much humour as emotion, he tells of the music and above all the life of his hero. And in doing so, also of his own life. Rob can’t help it. Because a life without Brel is no life at all.
