Following the success of the Efteling musical 'Efteling vertelt... Joris en de Draak', the Efteling is bringing a new and exciting story to Dutch theatres: the story of Baron 1898.
In the family musical Baron 1898, young Jochem and the traveller Gustav meet at the inn of a small village on the Soggy Heath. Gustav is on his way to his great love in a faraway land and tells Jochem passionately about his adventures. When he leaves, Jochem helps him cross the treacherous Soggy Heath.
A few years later, Gustav returns to the village inn. No longer as an adventurer, but as the greedy Baron Hooghmoed. He has changed since he discovered that gold lies deep beneath the ground of the Soggy Heath. Blinded by the glitter of gold, everything must make way: his great love, the nature around the Soggy Heath, Jochem. Everything.
Will the baron destroy the Soggy Heath to satisfy his hunger for gold? Will Jochem realise in time that it is up to him to save his village and all the nature around it from ruin? And who are those elusive singing figures that appear out of the mist at dusk?
‘Efteling vertelt… Baron 1898’ is an adventurous family musical about pride, greed and love.
