With “Wisten Wij Veel”, Freek de Jonge brings the fourth volume of his memoirs to life on stage. In this special theatre show he looks back on the years 1969–1980: a period in which everything began for him and took a decisive turn.
It is the time of his meeting Hella, the rise and break-up of Neerlands Hoop, and the exciting start of a solo career with De Komiek. Years of experiment, engagement and doubt — but also of success and an irresistible pull towards the stage.
In his own unique way, he still connects personal memories with the spirit of the times, then and now. What seemed self-evident turns out, in hindsight, to be a complicated story. Wisten wij veel is therefore not a retrospective full of certainties, but a search for what really happened.
This show is more than a companion to the book: it is a story in its own right, in which text and performance reinforce each other. Light-hearted where possible, sharp where necessary, and always personal.
