Harm Edens

From autumn 2025, Harm Edens will tour the Netherlands with his theater lecture 'The situation in the world according to Harm Edens'. A performance in which his urge to make the world a more beautiful and fun place is central. Because we've all made a mess of it.

Harm is now 63 and he has been affected by the situation in the world all his life. “As a child I saw a starving boy in Biafra on TV, then the carpet bombings in Vietnam, the report 'The limits to the growth of The Club of Rome' and later, as a TV maker, the melting glaciers on Spitsbergen. It is that experience in particular that makes me spend most of my daily work on creating a better, sustainable world. But lately I've been thinking more and more often: the world is only getting crazier. We consume ourselves to death, we call each other names on X, we become more right-wing and coarse and we grant each other less and less, people are being replaced by AI, while AI is destroying the world even further due to the high energy consumption.”

Harm wants to discuss this with the public. “Do you really need that air fryer, Henk? You already have three winter coats, Josien, do you really need to add a fourth one?”“I grew up in a joyless family, where nothing was celebrated, where nothing was enjoyed, where humor did not exist, where I was not seen. These experiences have shaped me into who I am: someone who approaches crazy life with a lot of humor, remains optimistic (usually) and enjoys it as much as possible. That is why I also talk about that formative side of my life.”

“It will be an evening full of uncomfortable truths, illuminating insights and, above all, a lot of humor. Because if nothing else remains, we will at least go into the abyss laughing together.”
