Jörgen Raymann
Raymann is back!
In 1998 the Netherlands was introduced to born entertainer Jörgen Raymann. Already world-famous in Suriname, he started out with a small tour of the Netherlands. That did not go unnoticed: broadcaster NTR immediately asked him to present ‘The Comedy Factory’, the first stand-up comedy show on Dutch television. Raymann soon became a household name in the comedy world. He went on to make successful full-length theatre shows for many years. In 2001 he also got his own late-night TV programme on the NPO: ‘Raymann is laat’. This hugely successful, trendsetting programme ran on Dutch TV for more than 15 years and was the NPO’s longest-running late-night personality show ever. In 2019 he rounded off his theatre career with a final tour of the Netherlands.
He withdrew from the entertainment world and is now a successful speaker and trainer for large organisations, small and medium-sized businesses and government. Yet the itch came back, and he wrote a new theatre show. In 2024 he performed it to sold-out houses on a short tour of Suriname – where, after all, it all began.
In 2026 Jörgen turns 60 and is touring the Netherlands again with "Welkom thuis", his ‘Bigi Yari’ or ‘Milestone Year’ show. It is a follow-up to his successful show ‘Even Slikken’, with which he played Dutch theatres xx years ago. Now he tells the story of Mister Lasmibalsingh, the Dutch Surinamese man who wants to return to his homeland after 40 years, but finds that he is a Surinamese man everywhere in the world except in Suriname. There, people now see him as a ‘tata’ – so how welcome is he at home?
