The Kik
The Kik plays The Beatles, completely uniquely retranslated into Dutch. They were compared to it from day one, now it's really happening.
The Kik was founded in Rotterdam around 2012 and quickly grew into one of the most idiosyncratic and beloved bands in the Netherlands. With their retro sound, steeped in sixties influences and Dutch lyrics full of humor and poetry, they found their own place in the Dutch music landscape. Several albums and sold-out halls followed. Frontman Dave von Raven became one of the most recognizable voices of his generation.
The band also proved to be excellent beyond its own songwriting. The Kik Hertaalt (2017), a tribute to Dutch-language classics, was widely embraced. With The Kik Hertaalt Eurovisie (2022) they showed that they can adapt any genre to their will, with characteristic flair and without too many winks.
Now they put on the collarless jacket for their greatest role model. The question had haunted them for years: "You do Beatle songs in Dutch, right?" The answer was invariably no, until now. The performance focuses on the early work of The Beatles, 1962 to 1966. Not a nostalgic imitation of the studio records, but sharp, idiosyncratic and with a deep love for the song.
An honest tribute to the greatest band of all time.
