Theater Rotterdam & Nastaran
With her new performance Heartbeats, Nastaran Razawi Khorasani brings an intimate and compelling story about life and farewell.
A performance that touches and disrupts, but also offers space for comfort, imagination and what makes life valuable.
Central is the story of Dian Sahertian-Boers, a young woman who was told in the middle of life that she was terminally ill. Her words convey openness and zest for life. How did Dian view her mortality? What were her desires? Did death mean the end for her, or would she live on in another way? The conversations between Dian and Nastaran form the beating heart of Heartbeats: a performance that does not avoid death, but rather shows what gives life meaning.
Nastaran:
“In this life, which is so shaped by ideas about growth and feasibility, there is little room for the inevitable end. Is my own fear of dying a fear of the great Nothingness? Looking for answers, I met her.”
Together with the team behind her successful performances Songs for no one and This is not a dance, Nastaran makes a documentary, physical and visual performance. Dian's words, light and music follow their own heartbeat in a constantly changing space that depicts a world beyond death.
